Carmina wrote this beautiful poem for her little sister. They were only 19 months apart in age and were always together and close. Ward always affectionately referred to them as Rip and Tear.
Carmina’s Poem
Angel was born in May and died in September. The lily of the valley is May’s flower, and the morning glory and the aster are September’s. Lily of the valley stands for “sweetness and humility” and used to be sent as a message saying, “You’ve made my life complete.” The aster used to be sent to say, “Take care of yourself for me.”
I still feel you with me
Even though your heart doesn’t beat.
Here for so little time
You’ve made my life complete.
You came into my life with
Sweetness and humility.
One day we will unite
My Lily of the Valley.
I see the Morning has lost the glory
Night has come and you have died.
Such a beauty with a life so short
The sun has set from the sunrise.
The Aster comes to be, and says
“Take care of yourself for me.”
